The 3-days haunt for young but talented players in and around the environs of Kumasi has come to a successful end today. The exercise which begun on Wednesday, July 5-7, 2023 had many young chaps troop to the Konadu-Yiadom astro turf at Ash-Town, Kumasi to exhibit their God-given talents.
Over 145 players made their way to the venue to prove their worth in other to secure a place with one of the finest and fast-growing football club’s in Ghana, thus Mahala Football Academy.
Our first team head coach, Emmanuel Nkrumah with his able staff had a successful screening of the players having set age criteria they were looking for. As an Academy team, discovering the talent and nurturing them to foreign market and at a short run for top clubs in the country’s domestic league age is very crucial to the players development.
Age bracket of 16-18 was what was approved for the justify.
In all, twenty-two players impressed the technical handlers of the Academy side. However, the selected players will commence training with the old players of the team on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 where they’re expected to once again prove their standard which will be the final stage of their screening before being augmented into the first team.
Speaking about the exercise, was Club President and bankroller Kwadwo Poku Mahala disclosing that it’s surprising the number of footballers who turn up to showcase their abilities. However, would want to take a second look at the selected players.
This is what he said; “Actually, am much surprised with the level of attendance looking at the short notice of this justify and seeing this huge numbers, I think we’re blessed as a nation having the young once having soo much interest in playing football”
“One thing, I came to realize the passion, determination and the rare talent. These guys are full of talent and will need someone to guide them” For me, am not a technical man but what I saw is full talent, we have good, good players…in the country.
“You know, some players get panic during trials so based on some few things I observed I want to take a look at some players so that is the reason for the selected players facing the old players before final assessment by our coaches but for what I saw, am impressed”.
Mahala Football Academy is hoping to replicate their maiden season in the Ashanti Region Division Two League next season, when Congress pave way for league commencement, asuch strengthen the side.
The outfit based in Ash-Town, Kumasi played in the final of the 2022-23 Ashanti Regional Division Two Promotional tournament but lost the Division One League slot to PAC Academy.
With the type of possessive football they outdoor, has sold the club afar and obviously needs to be maintained.
