On Sunday at the Kumasi Bantama Astro-turf, Mahala Football Academy begun the second round of the 2023-24 Ashanti Regional Division Two League with a 2-2 draw away to Sporting Time.
Mahala Football Academy played as guest to zone three bottom placed Sporting Time.
A game of two halves saw Mahala Football Academy dominated the entire first half but came shot after recess as they had to rally on to pick a point in the die embers of the week 8 fixture. The Academy lads having dominated play especially in the first quarter, created numerous goalscoring opportunities but squandered all due to poor finishing.
However, it was no surprise when Mahala Football Academy registered the opener of the game, because the goal was coming but none could tell the time. With three minutes to the half hour mark, striker Yusif Ahmed got Mahala Football Academy noses infront.
Sporting Time begun to settle down after conceding and eventually pushed up more for a reply.
On the struck of half time, the host leveled to send us to a 1-1 draw.
Two changes were made by coach Eric Owusu Ansah few minutes into the second department but it looked worried since it failed to materialised for Sporting Time to offend for a lead in the 59th minute. Nonetheless, it was not a moment to give up though Mahala Football Academy struggled to pose as threat to Sporting Time.
Mahala Football Academy widemen Elija Opoku and winger Kelvin Danso were marked out despite getting supplies.
Coach Eric side then deployed a new tactics to operate from the midfield by so doing introduced new signing Isaiah Fordjour. His passes upfront and runs inbetween spaces profited the visitors to torment Sporting Time in the die embers.
With just 9 minutes on the clock, Fordjour found Mahala Football Academy the deserving equaliser which propelled his outfit to a 2-2 draw at full time.
Mahala Football Academy following this draw has now accumulated 12 points in 8 matches.
