Mahala Football Academy to play Kwadwo Poku ‘Mahala’ select side in friendly; check date

Mahala Football Academy will take on Kwadwo Gyamfi-Poku ‘Mahala’ select side in a friendly game as part of the Eid-ul-Adha festive season on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

Coach Emmanuel Nkrumah has assembled the playing body for all but important crunch to face our club President Kwadwo Poku Mahala’s team. The President and bankroller of our dear outfit will make his squad to face the Academy lads.

The encounter is expected to serve as, a welcome home match for Kwadwo Poku and again, a festive season game to offer a celebration mood to the team after a marathon 2022-23 Ashanti Regional Division Two League where they made it to the final.

Our President who is based in the UK, touched down in Ghana precisely Kumasi last two weeks and as part of meeting old friends sanctioned this friendly game as he will lead a selected side to face Mahala Football Academy.

Obviously, former Asante Kotoko SC players will be making appearance at the Konadu-Yiadom astro turf to grace the occasion.

Speaking ahead of the game, Poku said; “I obviously want it to be a special day but purpose of having fun from my personal aspect”.



“We want the young players to learn one or two things from the former players who have seen at all. To have the opportunity to engage them on and off the pitch, when it comes to strength and speed the old players don’t have we only have experience and so it will be necessary the young players tap in it”

“The game is just a fun fest but promise to be great”.

‘Mahala’ as he is affectionately called had stint with Ghana Premier League record holder’s (25) Asante Kotoko SC, where he joined the club in 2002 after coming through the ranks at Kotoko, playing for the Youth team gaining promotion eventually in 2002.

He left the club after a season but made his return in 2007 before leaving 2012.

Poku capped 9 times for the Black Stars and scored 2 goals before retiring. He was noted of banging enigmatic goals in the domestic league. Spectators will light the Ash-Town Konadu Yiadom Park near the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday.
