Our unbeaten struck ended on Sunday, following a 2-1 defeat away to Longford FC at the Wesco Park.
Mahala Football Academy had won just two of our last four 2022-23 Ashanti Regional Division Two League matches prior to our crunchy encounter with Longford FC. Again, we were winless in our last two games playing stalemate in both matches, most recently drawing 1-1 with PAC Academy at home.
However, we were hoping to pick a win in Sunday’s game to ensure we keep taps on Group 4 leaders PAC Academy but unfortunately suffered defeat.
Mahala Football Academy despite not matching the aggressive level of Longford FC were able to curtail the host from causing threat after conceding an early goal.
Skipper Prince Osei and his pair Osman Salifu masterminded to close all spaces at the backline, halting them from pulling through with any dangerous ball to hold on with a 1-0 scoreline before break.
Having detected the pace of the game, we needed something to show by responding to Longford FC goal.
On the 78th minute, Isaac Asumadu handed us the leveller with a sublime and brilliant set-piece. His free-kick strike was enough to push the host to their lines until a controversial foul was awarded Longford FC on our right side of defence.
Despite, Longford FC player hitting the ball with his hand from the set-piece, a goal was awarded by the center referee.
At full time, 2-1 was the scoreline.
An unexpected and unfortunate result because, we didn’t deserve to lose all points.
The lost leaves us 3rd on the log with 8 points after five league games.
Mahala Football Academy go head-to-head with S.K Fresh FC on Sunday, 15 December, 2023 at Wesco Park.
