Mahala Football Academy stays alive in Zone 3 of the 2023-24 Ashanti Regional Division Two League with 2-1 home win over Sasaamo Panin on Sunday, 10 December 2023 at the Bantama Astroturf.

The 2022-23 Middle League finalist picked a deserving win; to move up the log with six points after match week three. Mahala Football Academy sit 3rd on the standings with three points adrift SC Laurentian and will face them this weekend.

The Academy lads took the lead on the 24th minute when forward Kelvin Asenso expertly converted a penalty.

This was after Asenso had taken on his marker but was brought down inside the box with referee not hesitating to point to the spot. In the continues stage of the encounter, Elija Opoku came close doubling our lead but got denied.

Nonetheless, the lads continued to push for more. Skipper Derrick Gyamfi led the team to canvas more attacking options with his brilliant runs on the left.

His constant runs kept breaking the defence line of Sasaamo Panin who could not found antidote to Mahala’s attack pattern but sweat.

On the struck of half time, the visit made a dangerous attack but our lines were up the task to deal with it ensuring game ends 1-0 in the first department.

Second half, Elija Opoku came close to scoring but his header, inside the box, on a free-kick went wide.

But eventually, Mahala Football Academy took charge to go infront again following Yussif Ahmed enigmatic strike just two minutes into the half.

However, Sasaamo Panin denied as a cleansheet after netting a consolation in the die embers of the game to make scores 2-1.

Our next fixture is against S.C Laurentian as we keep tabs on amassing all points this weekend at the Bantama Astroturf on Sunday.
