Mahala Football Academy on Saturday, had to settle with a goalless draw against 6th placed Sampdoria FC in Zone Three fixture of the 2023-24 Ashanti Regional Division Two League.
With a brilliant start to the encounter with head coach Eric Owusu Ansah opting for a 4-2-1-3 formation, the visitors Mahala Football Academy had more possession of the ball as they often dominate in their matches. However, were with nothing to show after full duration of game.
Attempting 7 shots, only 3 was dangerous but could not penetrate Sampdoria FC shot-stopper who is just 5ft inch tall. Despite, losing the midfield battle for the host at the Kumasi Bantama Astro-turf the likes of Owusu Bonsu and Sadat Mohammed had to resort to wing play in the last 10 minutes of first half.
With game ending barren, Sampdoria FC came in hard to break the deadlock in the second department. Nonetheless, Derrick Baafi and his backline of Albert Boakye and Imam Zidan will always be up to the task.
Mahala Football Academy after getting their share of the chances, struggled to break the virginity of the week 6 encounter with Elija Opoku and winger Kelvin Danso firing wide.
Last 20 minutes was a breath taken moment for Mahala Football Academy but with the brilliance and wonderful piece of goalkeeping from young goalkeeper Derrick Gyamfi he kept the Academy lads into the game.
Gyamfi made as many as three big safes inside the last quarter of the game. No wonder, he got adjudged Man Of The Match(MoTM).
His heroic performance got us a point away as game ended in a zero all.
