MATCH REPORT: Mahala Football Academy pip Centurio Life to harvest first win

Mahala Football Academy secured a blistering start to the 2022-23 Ashanti Regional Division Two League following a deserving 2-0 victory.

The Academy lads despite playing away, gave a good account of themselves in their match day one encounter to humble Centurio Life at the Wesco Park on Sunday.

Though, it was a slow start from the visitors but after first quarter of the encounter commanded play and detected the pace like home team.

Emmanuel Frimpong came close to registering our first league goal with a beautiful left-foot curl but missed the goal post in the 34th minute.

It followed with a goal kick but the upfront three lead by striker Kofi Agyemang didn’t allow a comfort play denying the host Centurio Life from progressing the ball resulting to a corner kick.

Skipper Prince Osei connected well with a header from Awudu Mohammed’s set-piece corner in the 36th minute to break the deadlock of the game.

A well possessed ball orchestrated by left-back Derrick Baafi ended up with Asamoah Justice on the left flank and with two successful dribbles he was fouled in the box but center referee claimed was a dive, denying Mahala Football Academy an excellent chance to double our lead via penalty.

Osei with another glorious opportunity from a free-kick, connected with soo much power that, it went up the post. It should have been two goals up for the visitors, Mahala Football Academy.

Nevertheless, his opener was enough to end the half with a 1-0 advantage.

After recess, Pep talk from the technical team to the lads stick to urge them to maintain their composure and strike for a second.

Just four minutes into the second half, the away team won the first corner of the department. Putting in good use, we increased our goal tally to two, all thanks to Emmanuel Frimpong’s enigmatic header.

Centurio Life who were eager to respond, made two incursions in a space of three minutes yet could not reduce the deficit before the hour mark.

Derrick Baafi was booked in the 61st minute following a poor tackle but was miraculously sent-off with a second card with no wrong doing.

A well dealt corner kick, fell on a canter attack for Mahala Football Academy with pace and agility from Kofi Agyemang all thought was the third goal, having had a good run with the ball to the edge of the opponent box yet fired wide to the surprise of many.

Emmanuel Frimpong few minutes later, won an intelligent foul just infront of the box but lacked proficiency at goal.

Midfielder Isaac Asamadu alongside Mukaila Abdul Basit and Awudu Mohammed marshall the midfield to avoid penetrative passes into their zone.

82 minutes passed the clock, with Mahala Football Academy closing all spaces that looks havoc and can cause trouble at our goal, having the shape of the team maintained after two substitutions.

Opoku Akwasi George and Ransford Manu were introduced to replace Kofi Agyemang and Emmanuel Frimpong.

Ransford almost made it three for us with yet another master class canter attacking football. However, the shot was feeble to shake the homers net once again.

Goalkeeper Derrick Gyebi was virtually on holiday with his defence line made of Prince Osei, Derrick Baafi, Salifu Osman and Kingsley Osei Agyemang protecting the gateway.

Additional seven minutes elapsed to hand Mahala Football Academy a 2-0 victory over Centurio Life.

First win with first cleansheet for the enterprising Goalkeeper Gyebi.

Winger Asamadu Isaac with splendid performance won Man of the match accolade.

Awudu Mohammed

The young man with brace of assist. Awudu a dead ball specialist, opened up the game in the first half with an assist and continued with another in the second department.

A star behind our emphatic away win on Sunday.
